Our first National Park
Yellowstone
Yellowstone National Park was established on March 1st, 1872. It encompasses nearly 3,500 sq. miles. The recreation area sits atop a volcanic hotspot. This park straddles 3 states, Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. Yellowstone features dramatic canyons, alpine rivers, lush forests, hot springs, and gushing geysers, including its most famous, Old Faithful. Home to hundreds of animal species, including wolves, bison, bear, elk, antelope, wolverines, bobcats, and coyotes. Our trip was in February so no bears were observed (they were hibernating). We did get a quick view of wolves on a road, but no presentable photos. The park has over 4 million visitors annually. Winter being the least crowded time of year. It felt at times that we had the park to ourselves.
